The Task
In this assignment we had to create a complete digital prototype in the program Eko Studio. The prototype should tell a story in the form of an “Interactive video walk”.
The teachers described the inspiration for our interactive videos as follows: Imagine that you are in a new place, have just moved in or are visiting. You do a Google Maps search and get three different possible routes to get to a destination. The three different routes must be walking routes, i.e. possible to walk according to Google Maps. At the same time, you will receive a suggestion from the service to take part in an interactive video that different users have posted. You walk these roads and experience what these people shared, personal stories of places and events along the way that they laid out. In this way, you get to know the place and the route, get a personally shaped experience where you can choose different tracks to explore. Your task is therefore to create an interactive video tour based on this imagined concept.
Results

Välkommen till Öckerö (Welcome to Öckerö) is an interactive video in which the user and viewer chooses their own story and pathway depending on their decisions. This also means that the video has a level of re-playability and immersiveness for the viewer, since they can form their own walk and take part of different information each time they watch the video.
The goal with the project was for the user to gain knowledge about Öckerö, its’ culture and all the little quirks that come with living out on this island. I also wanted the user to gain an interest in Öckerö and I wanted the user to want to know more about the island.
The finished product is an interactive video where you as the user and viewer choose which way you walk at different connecting points during the journey. Each different connecting point has a story of its own and you as the user get to cheese which one you would like to hear by choosing a different way to walk. You can view the result of the designprocess and take part on the video through this link: https://video.eko.com/v/VlvB8D?autoplay=true
The interactive video tells the user stories about how it might be to live at Öckerö, and it is solely in Swedish.
Designprocess
I documented the whole designprocess on a designated padlet for this project, which can be viewed through this link: https://digitaldesign.padlet.org/arndtsson/mh04n3stid3szepd
The project and process is documented in Swedish.
Presentation of the project
Title: Welcome to Öckerö
Premise: My concept is about Öckerö, what it’s like to live on an island, what the island culture is like and a little about its history.
Design goal: I want the user to gain knowledge about Öckerö, its island culture and all the little quirks that come with living out on the islands. I also want to arouse an interest in the user to want to know more about Öckerö in particular.
Short introduction: The user and his friend from Öckerö are on their way to the football field, which is not too far away, to play football if the field is free. The friend tells the user that they can choose which path they should take and while they are walking, the friend can tell them a little more about the islands. The friend says you can choose between hearing about “The Fir War”, “Island” or “Did you know?”. On the way to the soccer field, the friend continues to tell us about Öckerö, its culture and other things that might be fun to know about the islands.
Short story: If the user chooses to hear about “The Christmas Tree War”, the user will hear about Öckerö’s strangest annual tradition that has existed for years. The user will get an insight into what the Christmas tree war means and how it affected the islands.
If the user chooses to hear about “Ömål”, the user will have the opportunity to learn a little about how the language on the islands can sound. The user will get to hear different words and phrases in Ömål and find out what the words really mean.
If the user choose to hear about “Did you know?” the user will be offered a smörgåsbord of curiosities around the island. The user will learn everything from nicknames to what happens behind the doors of certain churches on the island.
Design question: Is the content, information and stories in the walks interesting enough for the user to want to know more, change walks and explore options?
Storyboards
After planing out my story, I started to work on my storyboards.
Maps
I also mapped out where the different paths would go and how they would intertwine with each other.

Flowcharts
Below are the flowcharts of the different walks and choices you can take part in. There is also one flowchart with all the different walks together that shows all the connecting points between the paths.
